The project is the extension from my dissertation and my earlier work that have looked into the nightlife and club-cultures in many cities, which people seek a moment of ecstasy and oblivion, breaking away from stereotypes and pressures imposed on them by society.

These have led me to the question of where do I stand when it comes to social and musical enjoyment, and how one could learn about one’s own desire? The practices I’ve engaged with were to explore this bidirectional dialogue between oppression and liberation, as well as a process of self-exchange between anarchy and discipline.

The design process also inspired by the imagery/memories about how an individual looks when in a free state of mind. I believe that when an individual is not expected to represent anything, when they are autonomous from social norms and conventions that individual has achieved a harmony and equilibrium within themselves.

vintage

Through the practices of rebuilding vintage pieces, I took the opportunity to learn with the analytical creation from other tailor’s hand. I appreciate the ruin value from them and their exclusivities through time. Either in the form of starting from tailoring or deconstructing, I enjoyed these impulsive energy during the disassembling, re-styling, which navigated me to less fear of unknown, and brought me to a further realization about where can I break through from a personal understanding of tailoring.

intentionless

learn to create from accidents, coincidence in design process, pursuing to disrupt the orthodox notion of how art practices should be defined and how materials could be used. Witnessing outcomes by chance operations, such as dyeing, bleaching, or an activity characterized by undergo processes and essentially purposeless.
